Installations by House of Sorcery for THE SKYGLASS apartments

SEATTLE, wa | January 2024,

The developers of the Skyglass residential tower wanted a collection of artwork that provided narrative for their crystalline building, the crowning jewel of which would be the “Skyglass” artwork for the rooftop amenity space. The client wanted an installation that would help define the kitchen and lounge spaces while illuminating the stunning views with an ethereal glow.

The fully custom set of four 4’6”x10’ sliding glass doors, glide through the space from floor to ceiling acting as a feature wall, room divider and interactive artwork. The faceted composition draws inspiration from the building form and creates a delicate motif of pale colors that wash the space with soft tones.

The intent of this piece was to bring the ethereal nature of the Skyglass building parti to life in the amenity space through color, light and form.

The dual purpose of the installation made utility a critical feature. Each set on it’s own, custom machined track, the doors slide easily into infinite configurations.

The color palette, including applied films, custom printed graphics, frosted glass and delicately brushed aluminum, was carefully selected to maintain elegant color compositions in any position.

The delicate color palette creates an etherial glow when fully opened, anchoring the color scheme and materiality of the space at large. In the closed position, the pale tones become a vibrant accent.

Not only are the doors interactive with people in the space, changing the positions of the doors engage the space itself with washes of color and interventions in circulation.

Since the doors are in a shared space and will receive a lot of wear and tear, they are constructed to be fully serviceable. The assembly is a nested, faceted system that can easily be taken apart to replace the triangular tempered glass.
