Indigo Slate is a video production and marketing firm with an HQ space in Pioneer Square. The recently renovated, historic building houses the office’s main event space for production, international in-person and increasingly virtual gatherings. Our goal was to transform six free-floating meeting pods into immersive spaces for virtual events that, as a collection, would create a centerpiece for the larger space. It was imporatant that the meeting pods also maintain their use on a day-to-day basis as functioning focus spaces for a contemporary workplace.

Heavily influenced by the client’s love of film and Sci-Fi, the six pods are comprised of a Mothership and five inter-dimensional locations she’s visited; the deep sea, a lush forest, a desert planet, a sci-fi future city and a deep space cave. These stops are all part of a maiden voyage, full of unexpected challenges, discoveries and occasional ship repair.

Each pod includes a key phrase, a missing tool from Mothership and countless easter eggs. All atmospheric lighting is preprogrammed for both theatrical and work time settings.

The mother ship: tool wall

A crafty assembly of recycled tools, vintage arcade button panels and custom upolstered panels.

The mother ship pod was really the motivator of the pioneer square office narrative. the mother ship acts as the “indigo explorer’s” home base on all inter-dimensional travel, representing the client’s brand identity and culture.

the focal tool wall, created from salvaged and hand treated items, custom upholstery and lighting anchors the other worldly nature of the project.

Designed around the meeting pod monitor, the command center creates an immersive work space for sending emails or inter-dimensional exploration.

The Command Center powers the ship. Switches operate overhead accent lighting, accent control panels and tool wall.

| Screen printing, Arcade Buttons, Vehicle Light, Vinyl decals, punched plastic labels, hand painted distressing.

A Focal graphic printed on lustrous textured wall covering sets the tone for this fully stuccoed desert planet.  Faux beams, arches, layered rugs and  carved details create a rich surface for the dark red flocking to cling to.

This space explores the potential of combining printed graphic with built interior. The storefront, layered in front of a full wall graphic, is filled with dimensional artwork and glazing.

The graphics wraping all three walls and ceiling acted as a background layer for dimensional elements, salvaged electrical equipment and signage. A forced perspective rear wall extends the immersive space infinitely.

| Printed graphic, found objects, conduit, hand painted details.

The space cave has the most minimal material and color palette of all the pods, but it makes up for it in texture and form. The CNC cut cavern frames wall-to-wall back painted glass, creating a vast, open-end cap to the six pod installation.

CNC’d Key phrase, “Everything Is an Experiment”

| Paint, CNC’d panel, Screen printing.
